Terrible customer service - verification process
I currently have a Fidelity Visa card that is serviced by Elan Financial Services ("Elan"). I have used this card since 2014.
Over the years it has been a struggle with fraud prevention department. Whoever determines the information and or ways to prevent fraud and keep the customer happy has failed miserably. I recently could not verify my driver's license (did not have it with me) and I could not verify the phone number Elan had in their system, I could verify my home phone, my cell # and my wife's cell #, but could not verify the number that was in the Elan system (possibly Elan had something wrong? My wife & I have not changed our numbers in some 15 + years) - so you figure it out.
Anyway your fraud prevention people (boy are they sharp) failed to verify actual card holders, yes they asked several other questions like last 4 of social, address, what state social issued, DOB, what car I drive, neighbors name - I thought they were going to ask me to take a video of myself doing a flip - anyway their system of verification failed. Therefore you have 1 less customer.
Yes, I realize you have hundreds of millions customers and I am just one so - who really cares.
Keep doing what you are doing and I will have to try to find another card that does not use your services - which may prove to be difficult. This probably explains why you have such terrible customer service - monopoly........

$16,000.00 Limit on my card, had it for six years and WHAM! Closed with no acceptable reason given when I called.
Worst company ever!
Elan charged my credit card account for old charges I already paid and would not remove them. It took months to resolve the problem, many phone calls!
Be careful as Fidelity and other companies are using them as the servicer! This means you are not getting the quality of Fidelity, you are getting the service of Elan!
White label credit cards are big business and that is a large part of Elan Financial Services income. They hide their reputation behind the company you trust, and you don't even know Elan is in the servicer unless you search for it or ask. ALWAYS ASK!
Amazon works with a reputable company on its credit card JP Morgan Chase.
Many companies do, but some have chosen to work with Elan, and for that, I can't carry those cards with me or have them. Cancel any Elan cards before they make a mistake at your expense.
- Charged my card for old charges
Preferred solution: Full refund
Got attitude and then hung up on
Card services
This company has no PR.
Lets you add authorized users. Great! Cancels your card when you do! Sucks!!!!!
I have family members I am trying to help get back on their feet. I added them as authorized users. They haven't even had the opportunity to use MY card that I'm responsible for paying on, before Elan Financial cancelled my card. They sent me a letter stating card had been suspended, and before I could even call in to find out what was going on I got notification from TransUnion that my card had been cancelled. When I did call, they cancelled me because we used authorized users!! Which they let people do!!
What kind of a business gives you the opportunity to use YOUR OWN credit card a certain way, then cancels your card when you do? Elan Financial.
We have excellent credit too! But that doesn't matter. If you don't play by their rules, you know, the ones they tell you to play by then cancel you when they do, then they don't want you.
MY SUGGESTION??? RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO ANOTHER CREDIT CARD COMPANY!
- Cancellation of my card when i followed the rules you allowed
Preferred solution: Don'g give people the option to add authorized users, then cancel the account when they do.
Credit Card Purchase Penalty/Fee
Elan Financial Services administrates (operates) the VISA card sponsored by my long time local federal credit bureau.
My wife and I have been married for 35+ years and I'm always looking for different gifts for her for Christmas. This past December 2017, for the first time, I purchased her a one year subscription for one game with NYS Lottery for $104. Elan Financial Services charged me a $20 fee for this purchase.
My past experience with the VISA card/Elan had been relatively good with no late payments. My credit score has routinely been between 750 - 800 for many years. My use of the card annually was between $7,000 - $8,000.
I requested the $20 penalty ( I call it a penalty they call it a fee), be waived and my request was denied. So I started looking at other credit card accounts. I found NO other company's that charge this penalty for state lottery purchases.
I have cancelled my account with Elan and opened a credit card account with another local credit union.
I can not recommend this company or any credit cards it operates or oversees.
Preferred solution: Change their policy on this fee. I do not want to be contacted by the company as I have already cancelled my account with them.
Account was closed
My account was closed due to inactivity even tho i made a purchase just prior to them closing my account. Their interest rate was way to high for having excellent credit and no rewards were offered either, tried to negotiate a lower rate but they flat out refused. They continue to send me offers for another card but after they closed my account for "paying off my charge i made to keep it open" they have some nerve to ask for my business again.
Secured credit card application declined
About 3 weeks ago my son, who is a college student, applied for a secured credit card through his bank where he has banked for many years. He doesn't have much money, but I insisted he should get a credit card to begin building his credit history. It took 2-1/2 hours to apply with a bank representative to go through the application process and he put up $500 of his hard earned money for security that Elan would keep in an account in case of default. Letter came today saying he was declined because of his student loan debt (deferred). The whole point of having a secured credit card is that Elan would be protected from default by the $500 on account, which also would be the credit limit! So, what the? Reasons given in the letter:
>insufficient length of credit history
>insufficient revolving credit history
>insufficient bankcard credit history
If they won't issue a secured credit card, how the heck is he ever going to build a history? Stupid, stupid, stupid. What a worthless company
How can I go about paying it off
Pay of credit card
Do not get this credit card
I missed one payment by 1 day and was charged full amount interest everything they could hit me with they got. These people told me that even if I paid 1minute late that I would still be hit with fees just as I did.
What kind of credit card company doesn’t give you a grace period.....what company in general when paying any bill does not give you a grace period. Do not get this card or any affiliates. This card is completely obscured and it’s employees are crooks. They want your money just as every credit card company, but this company finds sneaky ways to get more money out of you.
I ended up saying f u to elan financial and letting the, know that everyone I know will be dropping them. That’s a fact by the way. So I did as I said and now elan lost customers and will never get that back again. I will be spreading the word about this horrible credit card.
Elan what the *** kind of name is that for a credit card. This card should be banned. Amex {{REDACTED}}. Good luck I hope that my money help all you wipes get nice cars big houses and fancy clothing.
Elan you will regret this.....your business will eventually crash and implode. Good bye

Close your account whenever they feel like
I checked my credit report and learned that my $6k Elan card had been canceled the previous month due to inactivity. It had been less than a year!
When I called they couldn't tell me what their inactive card policy was, refused to reinstate it (even though I caught it in under 2 weeks, no thanks to them), and stated that the specifics were in a letter that had been sent in the mail that I never got (and surprise they couldn't send the letter again). I used to work for a bank selling their cards, DO NOT GET AN ELAN CARD WHATEVER YOU DO!!!!
I have seen them screw so many people over and now they just ruined my credit completely out of the blue. I've never left a review before in my life until now.

This com[any has no business handling anyone's account. Elan has no clue about keeping customer's accounts secure.I have no problem with them closing my account for inactivity, because they just don't deserve to stay in business.
shame on Fidelity for exposing their customers to Elan and not giving them another choice
